A Power of Attorney is an officially recognised document authorising someone else to sign on your behalf.
Correctly drawn up it will be officially recognised by third parties, banks and other institutions.
An Enduring Power of Attorney goes a step further and it remains valid even if you are mentally incapacitated. For example if you were involved in an accident, were unconscious or old and unfit to look after your own affairs, then the Attorney would still have authority.
Disasters usually strike with no warning. Old people put these matters off and suddenly the younger family are unable to help the old person and are fettered in dealing with their affairs, because of the lack of a simple document.
Desor & Co recommend that all clients have an Enduring Power of Attorney and an up to date Will.
These documents can be drawn up simply, quickly and cheaply and easily revised from time to time.
The Enduring Power of Attorney needs to be given to one or more people whom you trust and need not be used until an emergency arises. We strongly urge clients to contact us. The main information that we require is date of birth and the full name and address(es) of the person(s) to whom you give the authority.
